48 hand-coloured aquatint plates, tissue guards, light off-setting to a couple of plates but generally very clean, text and plates watermarks dated 1801, contemporary panelled calf gilt, gilt dentelles, marbled edges, rebacked preserving original flat spine with red morocco label and Sphinx motif decorations [Abbey Travel 369; Atabey 785; Blackmer 1097; Colas 2018], folio (472 x 330mm).
Mayer (1755-1803) was financed by the British Ambassador to Constantinople, Sir Robert Ainslie, to produce a series of views in what was then the Ottoman Empire.
