Rare hand-colored, complete first edition of the travel accounts of William Hodges with 14 engraved and hand-colored plates with vivid and bright unmarked images, index of plates and a large folding map (630 x 485 mm) showing parts of Bengal, Bahar and other provinces along the course of the Ganges. William Hodges, appointed by Warren Hastings-the governor general of the East India Company, was the first professional European landscape painter and famously accompanied Captain Cook on his Second voyage to the Pacific. He is most notably remembered for publishing a remarkable set of 48 paintings titled ‘Select Views in India’ in 1786
