About this Book
A unique and rare signed photograph of the Bengali polymath and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore during his visit to Czechoslovakia in October of 1926. The photograph, depicting Tagore in a contemplating and focused pose, was taken by Jindrich Vanek (1888-1965) at Prague.
Vanek, famous for his mastery in the field of Nude photography, opened a studio in Prague “Vanek and Kanderal” in 1914, which he led independently from 1918. He was one of the most important Czech photographers of the first part of the 20th century.
The matte photo, probably the official press photograph released for Tagore’s Prague-visit, measures 3.625” x 5.5”. Extensive writing on verso documents the history of the photograph. Minor edgewear and surface scratching, overall in very good to near fine condition.A true, collector’s item signed in native Bengali by the first Asian Nobel laureate.
