Fitzclarence, serving in India during the Mahratta campaign, carried peace treaty despatches by overland route from the western frontier of Bundelkund to Bombay, traversing through the desert, exploring pyramids with Salt and Belzoni, down the Nile river, to London via Alexandria and Malta. A beautiful account of contemporary battles in British India.
