Signed by Tagore on the front free endpaper and dated “Jan. 13 1921” (with a typical new year error: the author originally wrote “1920,” before crossing out the “0” and correcting it). Chitra is a play based on the epic of Mahabharata and centers upon the character of Chitrangada, a female warrior who tries to attract the attention of Arjuna, the Pandava prince. The Bhagavat Geeta, one may recall, is based on the dialogues of Prince Arjuna and Lord Krishna. Chitra has been performed worldwide and has been adapted into several different formats including dance adaptations.

Rabindranath Tagore (India, 1861-1941) was a prolific writer, best known for his poetry, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. In addition to writing, Tagore was also a prolific painter, musician, and social reformer.

A very good copy in general.
