About this Map
This beautifully engraved map of India is an exceptionally detailed and historically significant cartographic work, created to illustrate the contemporary British possessions, subsidiary states, protected states, and independent kingdoms. In the upper-right corner is a table of distances between the most important towns and cities, and in the lower-right is a list of military and civil stations, as well as population statistics.
The map is dedicated to Sir James Rivett Carnac Bart, the Chairman of the Court of Directors of the East India Company. The publication of thjs map was arranged by Capt Robert Melville Grindlay, who gained considerable fame as a prolific artist of Western India while being in the army, mainly stationed in the Bombay Presidency
Condition: Engraved map, contemporary outline coloring, sectionalized and laid carefully on linen, marbled endpapers; with mileage distance triangle and tables, some soiling and minor staining, small holes where old folds cross, overall in good to very good condition, 97 x 66.5 cm
