An incredibly rare panoramic view of the city of Calcutta, then capital of the British empire. Presented here in near fine condition and in unblemished printed covers, priced at six pence, this panorama presents some key monuments and places of interest in Calcutta in 1830.12pp, 5.5 by 8.5 inches.
Captain Robert Smith (1792-1882) served with the 44th Regiment in India from 1825 to 1833, he is widely known for his masterpiece on India titled “Asiatic Costumes” in 1828 (check out our copy offered for sale), and his panoramas of different Indian cities are now housed at the V&A museum.
